PurposeAllopurinol has beneficial effects in the systemic treatment of lens-induced uveitis and experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU). This is believed to be due to a reduction of oxidative tissue damage through its dose-dependent free radical scavenging ability, and to an immunomodulating effect.
